- Course Description:This 90 hour competency-based course develops the ability to understand the language of medicine through examining word building, analysis of terms, pronunciation, and spelling.It provides practice in the use of a medical dictionary and other medical reference books.This course is aligned with the Business Education Performance Standards of the California Department of Education.
Course Purpose:
The purpose of this course is to provide the basis for any health care related field. In the medical front office and medical insurance biller programs the student will use medical terminology in reading or writing patient charts and selecting the proper diagnostic or procedural code from the CPT or ICD-9.On the clinical side the student will learn the language of medicine in order to read and notate patient charts, as well as, effectively communicate with other medical staff.
